Why Saving the Original Phone Mattered

How We Found the Problem
We removed the logic board, connected a charging port that we knew was working, and checked the charging and USB communication path with a TriStar/Hydra diagnostic tool. The first result was FAIL. That gave us a clear direction and pointed to the charging control circuit instead of the battery, screen, or charging port.
The tester gave us an important clue, but we did not stop there. We also checked the board with a multimeter and completed several more tests before putting the phone back together.
Careful Microsoldering to Protect Her Data
The failed charging control chip sits under a metal shield that is soldered to the logic board. This is a delicate area. Too much heat, pressure, or tool movement can damage the board and make the stored data impossible to reach. That is why we took our time and opened only the small area we needed.

We gently opened just enough of the shield to reach the failed circuit while protecting the nearby board and the components that matter for Katrina’s data.
The parts we replaced
We replaced the charging control IC. We also replaced one small capacitor and one larger power coil in the same area as part of the repair.
Testing at every step
After the microsoldering work, the diagnostic tool changed from FAIL to PASS. We checked the board with a multimeter and ran more power and charging tests before closing the phone.
